WEFC FAQ's

What is the tryout schedule?

All players are strongly encouraged to attend both tryout sessions.  For time and location for each girls & boys age group please see the schedule posted:

http://www.westessexfc.com

Why is my child being given a number?

We provide every child attending a tryout session a number, which will be used to anonymously identify him/her to the trainers and WEFC Tryout Committee.  Children are thus evaluated based on demonstrated skill and not reputation.  Please pin this number to your child’s back during all tryout sessions.

Who is conducting the tryouts?

Evaluations are done by an outside professional organizations.  WEFC uses Coastal Sports, Sticks-n-Kicks, and others to train many of our teams during the course of the season.

How are teams formed?

Following tryouts, the WEFC Tryout Committee will review the evaluations together with the professional trainers.  In addition, for current travel players, evaluations of skill, attitude, commitment, enthusiasm, and behavior from their team trainers and parent coaches will be taken into account.  Overall, these evaluations are the primary basis, but not the only criteria, for the selection of players and placement on teams.  This is a competitive travel program, therefore we do not guarantee all children will receive a position on a team. Prior to a player being invited to join a team, the player's application must be approved by WEFC.

Do current travel players receive a preference in making the team?

All current travel players are required to attend tryouts if they want to play with the Club next year.  No one is guaranteed a spot on a travel team from one year to the next.

When do we find out whether my child made the team?

We expect to be able to send results this year after June12th.

How many players are on a team?

The roster sizes for our teams are as follows:

·         U9 and U10 play 7 per side, and have 10 to 14 players per team

·         U11 and U12 play 9 per side, and 12 and 15 players per team

·         U13 and older player 11 per side, and have 15 to 18 players per team

Where do the travel teams play?

WEFC plays in the Northern Counties Soccer Association (www.ncsanj.com), MAPS and JAGS.

When do the travel teams play?

The Fall season starts the weekend after Labor Day.  The season generally runs 10 or 11 weeks, skipping Columbus Day weekend.  The Spring season generally starts the first weekend in April and runs through early June, skipping Easter weekend and Memorial Day weekend.  Note that we generally do have games scheduled over the weekend of NJ Teachers Convention, and both weekends of April break. We ask travel team players to plan travel and vacations accordingly. WEFC also has indoor training in the winter.

When do travel teams practice?

WEFC practices begin for the fall season the same week that schools begin and run for approximately 10 weeks, with the trainer option to add additional training camps at an additional cost at end of August. In the spring, practices begin in late March and continue until mid-June.  WEFC teams practice twice per week in the fall and spring, and once per week training in the winter. Boys teams play on Saturdays in the Fall and Sundays in the Spring while girls teams always play on Sundays.

What type of commitment do I need to make to travel soccer?

We play in a competitive league and the spot your child takes on a team is often a spot denied to another child.  Additionally, soccer is a full season sport and we expect a full season commitment. For that reason, while we understand that some conflicts arise that are unexpected and unavoidable, we expect players to attend all practices and all games and play for the full season.   Please consider the game and practice scheduling guidelines described above before committing to play on a travel team.  Failure to comply may result in reduced playing time for your child and will be considered in the formation of future teams. The fees will be approximately $1200.00 per year.

What is the tryout registration fee?

For any player selected to a team, the tryout fee acts as a deposit towards your Fall season fees.  For any player who is not offered a spot on a team, WEFC will refund the tryout fee.
